Meeting October 18, 2009

Rooyesh Cultural Society had the opportunity to organize for an information session about Global Warming.

Amir Soleimanian, a student of Simon Fraser University (engineering), offered our members an excellent presentation about global warming and the challenges as result. Amir started learning about Global Warming as a student of Carson Graham secondary school in North Vancouver. He has attended several presentations and seminars while he actively updates himself about this very important topic.

Amir managed to speak in Farsi for us while his very interesting video in English was talked about in the meeting. Amir definitely impressed us with this video that he had created himself.

We learned about Cape Farewell project and how our responsibility for careful use of energy is increasing.

Thanks to Amir who taught us a whole deal about this amazing project. We wish him all the best.

Meeting October 4, 2009

In Celebration of Sohrab Sepehri

Rooyesh Cultural Society had the honor to have a session about Sohrab Sepehri and his life time art of promoting peace. In this gathering we had a huge turnout and we had the chance to listen to the mind-blowing poems of Sohrab by Mrs. Felora Talebi. This was a great opportunity to talk about a poet, artist, and humanist whose life has impacted millions of us. We learned how Sohrab was in love with life in the smallest details. Sohrab’s poetry describes life, people, nature, objects, art, and places.

Our next gathering will be on October 18, 2009 where we will listen to the Iranian Young people who will teach us about environment.

Celebration for the International Peace Day on Sep 20, 2009

Rooyesh Cultural Society managed to have a community celebration for the international peace day. In our community announcements, we had called this event as a celebration for “Peace and Love.”

It was a pleasure to have a large number of people attending this evening of festivity and socializing. To begin with we had the chance to talk about our Society’s new ideas and programs for this fall and winter. In addition briefly, we discussed Society’s goals and missions in order to get more people involved for future work.

Down the road, we had the chance to listen to a beautiful poem that was read by a participant Mrs. Felora Talebi. This poem shed light to our peace and love festivity, as it reminded us of how much peace is appreciated.

The poem was from Malek O-Shoara Bahar(1884-1951), name of the poem was "joghd jang" which was written in March of 1950 by Bahar.

This piece of poem took us to the world where peace sells less while war becomes the misery for human life.


We moved on to hear a beatiful poem read by Mrs Samira, the poem was from Fereydon Moshiri (1926-2000) from the "gozargah Tarikh."

This evening became a chance for participants to share their songs and ideas about how we could bring peace into our homes. We could laugh and learn while we had more chance for information exchange, listening to some live music Santoor/ Tonbak.

In one sentence; this evening was a simple way of celebrating and refreshing our minds. Thanks to everyone who attend and helped.

A New Start

After a longer time of pause in our web blog activities, now we come back.

Rooyesh Cultural Society's board of directors had a meeting in August 20,2009 and everyone agreed to get Rooyesh a new fresh start from this Fall.

We will have a month of summer break until September 20 of 2009, while we will prepare for a new type of cultural programs with variety and fun involved.

We call our next workshop as “peace and Love” event, as we continue celebrate the international peace day(September 21) as every year. We will add more love to our event as we all need hope, connection, and joy. Details about this event will be announced by media ahead of time.

We want to admit that since our celebration for Rooyesh in April, we have been keeping low in order to make some fundamental changes in our programs.

One significant event that impacted our programs was the Iran situation since June 12, 2009. The tragic events in our home country truly shocked us and left us paralyzed. This was a major reason for no update on our blog while our every other Friday meetings have occurred, although maybe with some lower number of people attending.

Now gladly we will announce that from September 2009, we will have entertainment, poetry, and music involved in our twice in a month seminars while we will use a wide range of guest speakers in areas of literature, art, and philosophy.

We look forward for all suggestions, feedback, and contacts. We are hoping to get new members and fund raise during this fall.
